Functions of the Organization
Though originally this office was established with a view to control the import
and export trade at present playing facilitating role in the field of import and
export trade. Under this changed circumstances this organization has been performing
the following functions:
(a) Assisting the Ministry of Commerce in formulation and implementation of the
Import Policy Order,
(b) Issuing registration certificates to importers, exporters and indentors under
the provisions of the Importers, Exporters and Indeniors (Registration)
Order, 1981;
(c) Settlement of disputes relating to trade & commerce under the Review, Appeal
and Revision Order, 1977;
(d) Disposing of disputes between Importers and Customs Authority on ITC
classification or description of imported goods;
(e) Giving decision regarding clearance of goods imported in violation of any
provision of the Import Policy Order (IPO);
(f) Issuing import permits and clearance permits, as the case may be, where goods
are imported without opening L/C under the provision of IPO;
(g) Issuing export permits, export-cum-import permits, import permits on
returnable basis;
(h) Giving clarification regarding provisions of IPO, where necessary;
(i) Giving suggestions to Ministry of Commerce for changes/modifications
of IPO, where necessary;
(j) Issuing public notices relating to amendment of provisions of IPO;
(k) Monitoring information relating to imports; etc;
(l) Monitoring the revenue process so that we can earn more non-tax revenue
under the provisions of the IPO.
